Parkinson

Parkinson's disease is a disease of the brain. Those suffering from the disease can have a variety of symptoms, making the disease very complex. The picture of Parkinson's symptoms is not the same for every patient.

Common symptoms

  • Shaking (tremor) of the hands, legs, chin or tongue
  • Slowing of movements (bradykinesia), difficulty initiating movements (akinesia) and absence of automatic movements (hypokinesia)
  • Stiffness of the muscles (rigidity)
  • Postural and balance problems and sometimes falls if the disease persists for a longer period of time
  • Freezing of the legs while walking (freezing), which makes it seem as if the feet are sticking to the floor

In addition to the above symptoms, a wide range of other complaints can occur, such as slower thinking, reduced sense of smell, sleep disorders, constipation, mood problems and changes in sexual needs. These symptoms do not occur in all patients. In addition, the severity of the complaints and the course of the disease differ from patient to patient. This certainly applies to patients with conditions that resemble Parkinson's disease, the so-called atypical parkinsonisms.
