A diastasis, also known as a Rectus Diastasis, is a phenomenon in which the space between the left and right rectus abdominis muscle is too large. This can lead to insufficient strength, which can lead to compensation. This can cause you to experience pain around the navel, have lower back or pelvic complaints, experience pelvic floor complaints such as urinary incontinence and experience loss of strength in the muscle corset.
During an intake and in the examination of the diastasis, it is determined how large the diastasis is and which factors play a role in its development. The treatment is tailored to this. The treatment will focus on advice (preventing the diastasis from increasing, posture advice, how to absorb or prevent abdominal pressure, exercise advice), exercise therapy, breathing exercises and various tape techniques to support the abdomen.
