Stress

All stress is, is tension. We all need a bit of tension to function properly, because your body is ready for action. Too much tension, however, can cause problems and pain.
If your body experiences stress, it readies itself for fight or flight.

Background

Your brain sends a signal for your body to start making the hormone adrenaline. Your heartrate and breathing pattern speed up and your muscles contract. Now, more oxygen-rich blood travels to your heart and muscles than to for example your digestive system which helps you to optimally react to the “danger”. If the danger hasn’t passed in a few minutes, your body starts making a different stress hormone (cortisol) that keeps you alert and ready. Its effects are normally short term. After that, your body needs a while to recuperate. If the stress continues for a long period of time, you can become overworked or burned out.

Finding a new equilibrium

Your therapist at Sens beweegt je guides you in becoming aware of your tension complaints and evaluates with you whether a treatment plan is possible and necessary. If needed we will cooperate with experts in other disciplines.
